Straight answers about Roam

Is Roam only for travel businesses in Africa?

No. We built and proved Roam with inbound operators and lodges across South Africa, Namibia, Kenya, Tanzania and Mauritius, but the problem we solve isn’t an African one. It exists wherever travellers pay in one currency and suppliers are paid in another: Americans touring Japan, Europeans exploring South America, Australians heading for Morocco. If that sounds like your business, let’s talk.

Which currencies can my travellers pay in?

Seven major currencies: US dollars, British pounds, euros, Australian dollars, Canadian dollars, Singapore dollars and UAE dirhams. Your travellers pay by card or bank transfer, in their own currency, and we add more currencies as we grow.

What exactly is Roam?

Roam is a travel payments platform: a complete set of tools that takes care of the payment side of your bookings, from your traveller’s first deposit to your final settlement. We collect from your travellers in their own currency, lock your exchange rate, protect eligible payments, and settle you in the currencies your suppliers need, all fitting around the way you already work.

What exactly is an All-In Rate?

It’s the total cost of taking a payment: the card or transfer fee, the exchange-rate markup, bank charges and admin, combined into one number. It’s the only fair way to compare providers.

How does Roam keep its All-In Rate low?

Travellers pay into our local bank accounts in their own country, which avoids many of the international transfer and conversion charges that banks add. And because we specialise in travel, we’ve designed out the costs that general payment providers pass on. We also move money through modern financial infrastructure rather than traditional bank-to-bank chains, which cuts out layers of fees along the way.

Is Roam only for B2C travel companies?

Not at all. We work with tour operators, DMCs, travel agents and accommodation providers. Roam suits any travel business whose customers are based internationally.

How else do you help B2B travel companies?

Our accounts payable tools are designed to give agents visibility of upcoming transfers and enable more efficient cash flow management. The Agent Zone allows your agents secure access to their bookings, centrally storing all relevant information that’s conveniently grouped by status for them to manage invoices payable from enquiry through to completion.

How quickly do payments settle?

Through our global network of bank accounts we typically receive bank transfers on the same day they are sent, with card payments reflecting immediately. Notifications are sent by email to the traveller as soon as funds are reconciled.

How often do you pay out?

Your payout schedule depends on currency and volume, but we generally settle funds to clients every two weeks.

Can we connect our CRM to your API?

Absolutely. Leverage our single unified API though a low-code integration and maintain full control through never leaving your business ecosystem. Our detailed documentation should be all you need, but our developers are on hand if there is anything you are unsure of.

Will I need technical expertise?

No. You can create a booking in a couple of clicks, and our team trains yours during onboarding.

Are there long-term contracts or hidden fees?

No. There’s no long-term contract and no upfront fee. Your All-In Rate is agreed with you before you start, with every fee we could charge set out up front. Clients who bring all their eligible payments to Roam also earn a payback through RoamRewards.

Can I run Roam alongside my current provider?

Yes. Many clients start with a few bookings and move across once they’ve seen it working.

How can I get started with Roam?

Book a demo or calculate your All-In Rate. We’ll then build a proposal around your own payment flows. Most clients are live within two to three weeks.
